This is a sumi-e painting by Tré, featuring two skeletons in a pumpkin patch with their arms and one leg raised, one set of hands are pressed together as they dance on the center path. There are two pumpkins on the left before a wooden fence that angles and fades into the background. There are three pumpkins on the right. In the distance two mountain ranges converge behind a center pumpkin. In the sky on the left is a full moon covered in clouds.

This is a black and white illustration by Tré featuring a zombie hand in the lower-left, clawing the grass, and holding a daisy. A tree is cinched by a corset and wearing heart-shaped tassels, with a carved pumpkin resting on its lefts root. On the right are two vertical striped legs sticking up, wearing curled shoes with buckles. Above the shoes are two falling leaves circling a crescent moon. In the background is an iron fence before a road to a covered bridge. There is a small stream, and on the far side is a wavering treeline and faded mountains below stars.

Love Letter

Yesterday, when I told you that you could go, you disagreed. Now, barely 24 hours later,

as I stand next to your bed, the sound of my voice is enough. Your eyes open for a split

second. They may look cloudy but they still radiate kindness and strength. The type of

kindness that soothes a child’s aching heart. The type of strength that teaches an adult

how to live.

Yesterday, when I told you that Mom, Auntie, and Grandpa were waiting for you, you

disagreed. Now, there is a tear on your cheek. Your last breath has come—with a smile.

Your once shriveled hands look young again.

The nurses will arrive in a few seconds. It is 5:50 p.m. and everything speaks of joyful

homecoming. The love letter on your face is mine to keep forever.

Winter light

all the years together

near and far.
